Mei Tai Instructions

Front Carry

From birth, you can wear your baby in the front carrying position. This carry allows you to be close with your baby, nurse your baby and still get things done like housework, shopping, visiting with your friends and taking care of your family.

Step #1 To start this carry, you tie the bottom waist straps to your waist, leaving the body in front of you.

Step #2 Hold your baby in front of you and bring the body up over her back, While supporting your baby with one hand, grab the shoulder straps and toss them over your shoulders.

Step #3 Holding the straps in each hand, bring them around to the front, over the legs, crossing them under your baby's bottom.

Step # 4 Bring the straps under the baby's legs, around to the back and tie. Don't be afraid to adjust the carrier to get the height and tightness you need to feel secure. If there is not enough strap for you to tie in the back, you can tie it under the baby's bottom.

Now you have a front carry and are ready to go!

Back Carry

To wear your baby on your back, your baby should be old enough to hold her head up and sit on her own.

Step #1 Start by tying the bottom, shorter straps around your waist comfortably.

Step #2 Then holding your baby at your hip, slide them on your back,

Step # 3 Bending forward slightly to help support the weight. Using one hand to hold your baby, use the other hand to lift the body of the carrier over the baby's back

Step # 4 Then bring the straps up over your head, bouncing slightly to make sure your baby is in snugly,

Step # 5 Bring the straps down and over the baby's legs, under your baby's bottom, crossing the straps, under baby's legs and bringing them in the front to tie. or again, if the straps are not long enough for you to bring in front, you can bring the straps under baby's legs and tie under their bottom.

Another way to do a back carry is crossing the straps across your chest to distribute the weight differently. This type of carry takes practice. Make sure you try this at home before attempting at an outing. Don't give up!!!
